What do snails eat? What food do snails eat?

Snails live in waters where the sediment is rich in humus, such as lakes, ponds, swamps, fields or slow-flowing ditches with lush water plants. They feed on moss, and also like to eat artificial feeds, such as fruits and vegetables, vegetable leaves, rice bran, wheat bran, soybean meal (cake) and various animal scraps. The snail is resistant to cold and heat. The suitable temperature for its life is 20°C~28°C. If the water temperature is lower than 10°C or higher than 30°C, it will stop feeding and burrow into the soil and grass to avoid the cold and heat. When the water temperature exceeds 40 ℃, the snails will be scalded to death.

In the dry season, it completely shrinks the soft body into the shell to reduce water evaporation; in the cold winter, it burrows into the soil and does not eat and does not move, hibernating. In the warm spring period, when the temperature rises to be suitable for its activities, it will crawl out of the shell with its head and feet.

When its most suitable growth temperature is 20~26 degrees, it feeds most vigorously and grows fastest at this time. When the water temperature rises to 30 degrees, stop eating. It is not resistant to high temperatures, but it is very cold, and it will burrow for the winter in the cold season.

Snails mainly feed on the detritus and decaying organic matter of small animals or plants that breed on the bottom of the water.

Snail feed:

Natural bait The natural bait is the microorganisms and organic matter in the pond water, mainly including phytoplankton, detritus, moss, green cabbage leaves and organic debris.

Artificial bait Artificial bait includes bran cake, vegetable leaves, bean cake, wheat bran, fish meal, melon and fruit peel, duckweed, rice bran, fish offal and other animal offal. Under high-density feeding conditions, natural bait is far from meeting the feeding needs of snails, so artificial feed, fish internal organs, etc. must be supplemented. Animal manure, straw and other organic fertilizers can also be used to raise snails.
